Ships from the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron recently visited the islands of La Réunion (France) and Mauritius as part of a long-range training mission, reinforcing India’s role as a key maritime partner in the region.

Key Activities:

  • With France: The naval ships conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the French Navy. These are drills designed to improve coordination and communication between friendly navies when they’re operating near each other.

  • With Mauritius: India carried out joint patrols of Mauritius’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Think of an EEZ as a country’s maritime territory where it has special rights over resources—India helps friendly nations like Mauritius secure these vast ocean areas.

This deployment highlights India’s commitment to its MAHASAGAR vision, which aims to ensure security and growth for all countries in the Indian Ocean Region.
